How to Lose Weight: 5 Stupid Simple Steps For Big Results

1) Commit to a Lifestyle Change

The first and most important thing in your weight loss journey is understanding your WHY. Why do you want to lose weight in the first place? Is it so you can look better, have that butt you have always wanted, play with your kids more, or just live a healthier lifestyle?

Everyone is going to have a different answer. Dig deep and figure out WHY you want to lose weight and change your life. Understanding your WHY is what is going to keep you going when things get rough.

Your WHY is your purpose and something you can lean on throughout your journey. 

If you are not ready to fully commit to losing weight don’t even bother starting. There is only two type of people in the world. People who are good at getting stuff done and people who are good at making excuses.

The “I’ll start next week” needs to be thrown away, it’s the ultimate excuse to not lose weight. Tell as many people as you can about your commitment to a new healthy lifestyle. Accountability alone can keep you going.

Trust me, when you fully commit to something you can achieve anything you put your mind to!



2) Learn the Simple Weight Loss Equation

Crazy right? If you want to lose weight you need to learn one simple math equation.

Calories Consumed < Calories Burned = Weight Loss

That’s it! Like I said above, I want to keep this as simple as possible. This is not a complicated program.

If you eat fewer calories than your body burns throughout the day you will lose weight. Let me rephrase this the other way around also. If you burn more calories than you consume throughout the day you will lose weight.

The bigger the calorie deficit you create the faster you will lose weight. Remember this is not a quick fix, you are on a completely healthy lifestyle change. It’s important to lose weight in a healthy manner. Talking to your doctor is never a bad idea.

Getting used to eating lower calorie meals that are packed full of high volume zero calorie foods is going to make your weight loss journey even easier. We have found that meal prepping and having healthy smoothies from time to time make cutting calories much easier.

3) Track Every Single Calorie That Enters Your Mouth

I will be completely honest, this is the hardest step in the process. Tracking your calories does not come naturally at first.

It can feel time-consuming and cumbersome at first, but it will become second nature. All new habits take at least 30 days before they are formed.

The absolute fastest and easiest way to track your daily calories is through MyFitnessPal. They have a convenient mobile app and desktop version that you can use.

Once you set up an account you need to start tracking everything that goes into your mouth. This is not something you can pick and choose when you do it. To be successful at getting healthy and losing weight you need to track every calorie that goes into your mouth.

You will be shocked at how much you actually eat throughout the day! I vastly underestimated my calorie intake by almost 1,000 calories per day. Unless you are tracking each and every calorie you will have no idea how much you are actually eating.

A great way to help make tracking your calories even easier and prevent overeating is learning how to meal prep. If you struggle to come up with meal prep recipes a company like $5 Meal Plan can be a life saver!

4) Track Your Calories Burned Throughout the Day

The second part of the simple weight loss equation is tracking your calories burned.

There are so many fitness trackers on the market that will track your daily calorie burn automatically. My favorite option and the one I used is the FitBit HR Charge 2. It’s affordable, has easy to use mobile app, and very durable.

Near the end of the day compare your calories burned vs. calories consumed. If you ate more than you should have simply go for a 30-minute walk to burn more calories for the day. If you have a calorie deficit then your all set.

You will quickly see how easy it is to lose weight!

5) Stay as Active as Possible

All of the steps above were critical in my weight loss journey, but staying as active as possible was just as important.

Try to make everything a game and try to burn calories in everything you do.

For example: run up the stairs, park far away, squat while watching TV, walk everywhere you go or play tag with your kids!

Take up some new hobbies like running, biking, swimming, basketball, racquetball, volleyball, tennis, or lifting weights.

You just have to GET UP and MOVE! 

Our bodies are not designed to stay sedentary for a long time. It’s time to stop being lazy and get active. Once you make being active a habit you will soon learn the world around you is completely different.

You will have more energy than you ever have before, you will be confident in the way you look, and you will living life to the fullest!
